Explore a new depth of flavour with Eclipse Navy Strength, created by Master Blender Trudiann Branker. For this release, she took inspiration from the long historical connection between Mount Gay and sailing, creating a high strength Eclipse blend bottled at 57.1% ABV.

Distillation: Traditional column & double retort pot stills
Style: Vibrant & Tasteful, bottled at 57.1% abv
Ageing: Charred ex-american whiskey casks

Aroma: Vanilla, passionfruit, cardamon and leather notes
Taste: Roasted pineapple, mocha, butterscotch and sea salt
Body: Smooth, complex and bold

For this release, I took inspiration from Mount Gay’s long history with sailing… The history of navy strength spirits is fascinating. Given that Eclipse has been loved by sailors around the world since its launch in 1910, it made sense to experiment the loved blend at navy strength. When I first tried it, I was blown away by the vibrancy of flavour of the rum. With mixers or in cocktails, it is a delight.

Navy Strength rum is a historical term dating back to the years when boats would carry large quantities of rum. In the days of cannonball battles, wet gunpowder that would not light would be a death sentence in battle.

However, sailors realised that if the rum was strong enough and spilled, the gunpowder would still light and be used, and so this was what was carried on ships; the term has remained ever since. The historic Navy Strength used in the US was 57.1% abv, and that is the reference Trudiann chose for her Eclipse Navy Strength blend.
